On 04/12/2018 just after 2000hrs, members were just leaving the first anual New Castle County Medal Day ceremony at Five Points Fire Company when the box was transmitted for the unit block of Burleigh Ct in Iron Hill Apartments for smoke coming from the laundry room. Squad and Rescue 23 responded. Squad 23 arrived as the third due engine and stood by briefly as RIT before being cleared by command.
While units were responding to Burleigh Ct, a second box was transmitted for a house on fire in the unit block of Chestnut Avenue in the Roseville Park section of Newark. As Squad and Rescue 23 along with several other units cleared from the initial box, they were assigned. Chief 9 arrived and reported smoke showing from a single story single family dwelling with a priority patient in the front yard. Rescue 23 arrived shortly after and was tasked with a primary search of the structure to check for possible trapped occupants. Squad 23 arrived and secured the second engine's supply line and reported to the command post for an assignment. Squad 23 was assigned to follow the initial attack line into the structure and assist with fire suppression. Crews battled high heat, and zero visibility through hoarding conditions to make access to the main area on fire. Station 23 units operated for around 3 hours before being release by command.
