At 1740 hours, the multi-residential fire assignment was dispatched to the 5800 block of Byron Court, in 12's area, for multiple reports of fire from the third floor of an apartment building. Rescue 23 was already on the road, enroute to a crash, and quickly diverted along with Engine and Ladder 12. Engine Company 12 arrived to find fire showing from the rear of a three story apartment building, followed closely by Rescue 23 (first due special) and Ladder 12 (second due special). The second alarm was then struck at the request of Christiana Command. Squad 23 arrived moments later as the third due Engine Company, but the crew was re-assigned to fulfill the second due engine responsibilities. Newport crews went to work performing searches and assisting with opening up. The company returned to quarters around 1930 hours.
