At 2321 hours on Wednesday, August 8, Station 23 was alerted to assist Newark at 127 Chestnut Crossing Drive for the report of fire in the apartment. Engine 23 and Squad 23 were both staffed for the seven area duty crew, and quicly responded with ten members. Upon arrival, Rescue Engine 12 reported light smoke showing, and confirmed an apartment fire. Squad 23 arrived as the third due engine, but operated as the second, picking up 12's line. Engine 23 arrived and operated as the fourth due engine, picking up 9's hydrant. The fire was placed under control quickly, and units cleared in approximately one hour.
