At 0010 hours on Saturday, October 27, Station 23 was alerted for an engine to assist 17 on a multi-residential fire with injuries, in the 300 block of North DuPont Road. Squad 23 quickly responded with four, and arrived as the first due engine company, shortly behind Ladder 16 who reported fire showing in the rear. The Squad crew placed 200' of 1.75" inservice, knocking the bulk of the fire. Two 1.75" back up lines were also stretched and operated, and units cleared in approximately two hours. One resident was transported to the hospital.
Shortly after returning to quarters, Station 23 was alerted once again for an engine assist to 17's local for a vehicle fire with exposures. The dispatched location was the 200 block of Valley Road, and Squad 23 arrived with 17-8 to find multiple vehicles off with exposures to other vehicles and a commercial building. The bumper line was placed inservice, and the incident was under control in approximately 15 minutes. Engine 17, Ladder 21-7, and Rescue Engine 21-6 also made the response.
The Company responded to five other incidents on the day and Squad 23 was utilized on each. These included an MVC with rollover on Route 1 Southbound at Red Lion Road. This is not a typical response for the company, but the Squad was enroute to a multi-residential gas odor in Christiana's area and was redirected by command. Upon arrival units found one trapped and the patient was extricated via the front windshield.
