At 1008 hours on Monday, November 12, the multi-residential fire assignment was dispatched to unit block of Waltham Street in Newark for the report of a residence on fire, with a victim hanging from a window. Squad 23 made the response with 3, followed by Rescue 23 with 4. The Squad arrived as the fourth due engine, originally assuming the RIT before being placed inservice in the delta exposure. The Rescue arrived as the second due special, and the crew was placed in manpower staging. Squad 9 (first due engine) made a quick knock on the fire, and removed one victim. The fire was placed under control in approximately 30 minutes, and all units returned in approximately 2 hours. Station 23 units also responded to five box alarms within 16 hours on this incident, none of which proved to be anything major.
