At 0956 hours on Friday, December 7, an engine company response from Station 23 was alerted to the 1000 block of Old Forge Road for a residential fire with people trapped. Squad 23 responded and arrived as the third due engine company, originally assigned the RIT but quickly placed inservice opening up the bravo exposure. The incident eventually went two alarms and claimed the life of one victim. At 2243 hours, the multi-residential fire assignment was dispatched to 268 East Main Street in Newark for the report of a fire in a hotel with people trapped. Squad 23 responded as part of the second alarm assignment, and upon arrival the crew stood by to assist with manpower. The Squad was cleared from the scene and sent to cover Station 8, and while enroute it was redirected to Station 23 on the MVC assignment. Squad 23 arrived at the corner of James and Justis to find one vehicle into multiple poles, with no injuries. The company handled 8 runs on the day.
