Dual Engine Company Responses for Numerous Box Alarms, Small Fires

On Wednesday, January 9, the Newport volunteers handled seven calls for service, including five box alarms. Members placed the duty crew in service at 1800 hours, and just prior a box alarm was dispatched to the unit block of North Walnut Street in the first due for a reported fire in the basement. Engine 23 arrived as the first due engine, followed by the Squad as the second. Units went inservice to find a small electrical fire which was quickly placed under control.

At 2318 hours the 9 box was dropped for a house on fire in the 800 block of Broadfield Drive. The Engine arrived as the third due, RIT, followed by the Squad as the fourth due. Command reassigned the Squad to act as the second due special service. Crews worked to extinguish a fire that ran the wall area around the chimney, and the box was available in approximately one hour.

At 0304 hours, the multi-residential fire box was dropped to the 400 block of Jacobsen Drive in 12's area. Engine and Ladder 12 arrived and reported a fire on the rear deck. Engine 23 arrived as the second engine, followed by the Squad as the third. Units made quick work of the fire with negative extension found. All units cleared in approximately 30 minutes.
