First Due Building Fire

On 08/06/2019 just after 0600hrs, Station 23 and surrounding companies were dispatched to the 300 Block of South Walnut Street in Newport for a reported commercial building fire.  Assistant Chief 23 arrived first and reported "smoke showing".  Engine 23 arrived, secured a water supply, and stretched an attack line.  Engine 23's crew forced entry to the building and found a commercial van on fire in the garage.  Engine 23's crew along with arriving companies quickly controlled the fire.  23 units operated for around 2 hours.  Chief 23 had the "Newport Command".
