On Thursday 11/21/2019 just before 0200hrs, Station 23 was alerted to assist Station 17 on a residential fire in the 100 Block of Atlantic Avenue in Richardson Park. Squad and Deputy Chief 23 responded. As units were responding, Fireboard advised that they were receiving numerous calls for a house on fire in that area. Chief 16 (Elsmere) arrived and reported fire showing. Squad 23 arrived as the first engine, secured a water supply and stretched an attack line. Squad 23 began an interior attack in the basement of the fire building. As additional units arrived, crews stretched additional lines for fire suppression on the upper floors. Deputy 23 assisted with interior supervision on the upper floors. After approximately 30 minutes of fire suppression, the decision was made to evacuate the structure to re-group as structural stability began coming into question. Crews operated defensively for a short time before heading back in to complete overhaul. Squad 23 operated for around 3 hours before clearing the scene.
One member of Station 23 received a minor injury at the fire and had to be transported to a local hospital. We are happy to annouce that he was quickly treated and released.
