Engine and Rescue Engine Run 2nd Alarm Townhouse Fire
Sunday, July 19, 2015

On the above date, just before 2300hrs, New Castle county Fireboard began receiving calls about a house on fire in the Pepper Ridge section of Station 2's fire district.  Rescue Engine 236 was on the road returning from another run and made the response with a crew of 5 under the command of Assistant Chief Harvey Jr.  While units were responding, Fireboard updated the units that there were possibly two townhouses on fire, and the "working fire" was dispatched.  Quint 2 arrived on scene and advised they had a 2 story in the front, 3 story in the rear, middle of the group townhouse with fire on all 3 floors and Requested the Second Alarm.  Engine 23 was due on the second alarm, and Engine 235 quickly responded with a crew of 6 under the command of Fire Chief Dierolf.  Rescue Engine 23 arrived shortly after and immediately went to work.  RE23's crew performed primary searches in both the Bravo and Delta exposures with negative results.  Crews encountered minor fire extension on either side of the main fire building through the soffit.  Engine 23 arrived and assisted with extinguishment efforts, and controlling fire extension.  Crews operated for over 2 hours before returning to quarters.

A special thanks goes to Delaware County PA, Engine 17 (Aston Township) for covering the local while units were operating at the fire.  Engine 17 ran a medical call in 17's fire district before returning to Pennsylvania.
