Back to Back Fires for the Engine Company
Sunday, August 30, 2015

On the above date, just after 0800hrs, Station 23 was alerted to assist Stations 3,6, and 12 (Christiana) on a residential fire in the Birchwood section of their first due.  Engine 235 with a crew of 6 under the command of Rescue Captain Johnson quickly responded.  Engine Company 12 arrived to find a single story single family dwelling with fire showing.  Engine 23 arrived shortly after and quickly went to work deploying a second line to back up Engine 12 on the interior.  The crew worked to open up and extinguish fire in the walls and celings.  The Engine operated for around 1 hour before clearing.

As crews were clearing the first fire, a second building assignment was dispatched in Christiana's local in the Sandalwood development.  Engine 12 arrived to find smoke showing.  Engine 235 arrived shortly later and the crew was directed by command to stretch a 3rd line to back up crews on the interior.  Crews checked for extension above the fire, and found none.  While checking apartments on the third floor, crews found several people on balconies that needed to be removed.  Crew from the interior and exterior coordinated their extrications.  The Engine operated for around 2 hours before being cleared by command.
